We must not stand idly and watch the world’s most vulnerable countries suffer - PM

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the Pacific nations owe it to its people and to humanity as a whole to raise voices more to demand that major emitters and wealthy countries step up their climate actions and commitments.
He says without this, we will lose our homes, our way of life, our well-being and our livelihoods.
Bainimarama highlighted this at the Kainaki II to COP 26 Virtual Pacific Islands Forum High-Level Round-table on Urgent Climate Change Action.

Following is the text of UN Secretary-General António Guterres video message to the Pacific Islands Forum High-Level Round Table on Urgent Climate Change Action, today:
I will never forget my last visit to the Pacific when I saw the heartbreaking impacts of climate change. It is one thing to hear about rising sea levels and the devastation that climate change brings to communities and nations.
It is another to see it first-hand, to see the impact on people s lives and to meet children who are anxious about their future. I saw with my own eyes the deep challenges that vulnerable small island developing states are facing.
