The major revamp plans at Belle Vue Park in Sudbury have taken another step forward this week as contracts have been exchanged on the sale of Belle Vue House and part of the old swimming pool site.
Earlier this year, cabinet members at Babergh District Council agreed the sale of the house and surrounding land, including the northern part of the old swimming pool site, to Churchill Retirement Living to create 46 flats.
Money made from the sale of the land will go towards the creation of a new public space at the park entrance with plans in place for a new café and toilet facilities.

Although last weekend s Stand for Freedom protest at Bellevue Park is still under investigation, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service anticipates that fines will eventually be issued as a result of the event.
Police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit confirmed that the police service is also aware of plans of ongoing protests at Bellevue Park, after a social media post on a public Facebook group surfaced promoting ongoing weekly protests.
“Yes, we are aware of potential plans for other protests, and we will investigate those accordingly,” said Louttit, speaking with SooToday Friday. “People need to be aware that if they are found to be organizing such an event, they could receive a minimum fine of $10,000, and if they attend, they can receive a minimum fine of $750.”

Vandals are believed to have set fire to a hedge, exposed an electrical cupboard and damaged the toilet block at Belle Vue Park in Sudbury, leading to its closure.
Suffolk police believe wood was broken off a fence between 4.15pm and 7.15pm on Bank Holiday Monday and used as a lever to open an electric cupboard exposing the meter at Belle Vue Park.
Belle Vue Park has been closed in Sudbury after vandals made the park dangerous.
A small grassland fire was also put out with one hose reel by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at around 7pm on the bank holiday.

Usually when police see an offence taking place before their very eyes, they move in and take appropriate action. But that certainly wasn’t the case in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday. Despite warnings from police and public health earlier in the week about the heavy penalties that could be applied to those organizing and also those attending public gatherings, more than 100 people showed up at Bellevue Park for the “Stand for Freedom” rally protesting the restrictions imposed because of COVID-19. Sault police officers were there but according to news reports, they only took pictures. The idea, it seems, is to identify those involved by poring over the pictures and then issuing fines.
