So, before we come to consider Michael Collins (Miceál Ó Coileáin) let’s look at who came before him and in so doing see where Ó Coileáin fits in that continuum. Michael lives and works in both Limerick and Barcelona. I spoke to him on the phone recently in Barcelona and I’m delighted to report that it was raining there and sunny here in Limerick! Timothy Collopy Timothy Collopy was born in Limerick in the mid-eighteenth century. His first trade was as a baker’s apprentice. His talent for art was noticed from a young age and he was sent to Rome to study. He was mostly known as a religious painter though he also worked as a portrait painter and restorer. Following his death in London in 1811 some of his works were auctioned in Christies Auction Rooms. One of his paintings, ‘The Ascension,’ can be viewed in the Augustinian Church on O’Connell

TUI concerned over lack of clarity with COVID-19 vaccine priority list

Share this article The Teachers Union of Ireland says they have concerns about the lack of clarity regarding the vaccine priority list. It comes after the Minister for Health asked his department to examine the possibility of vaccinating younger age groups against COVID-19 earlier to reduce transmission of the virus. Stephen Donnelly is proposing that people aged 18 to 30 would get their inoculations before those aged 30 to 50, once people in their 60s are vaccinated. The CEO of the HSE said that he is not aware of any plans to change the vaccine priority list. However, Paul Reid added that the health service is ready to make adjustments from the aged based system if asked to do so by Government.

Share this article Mobile phones could be banned in some schools in the UK as part of a new programme. A new £10m “behaviour hub” programme aims to replace “out-of-control behaviour” with “discipline and order”. The first 22 schools that will take part in the initiative were announced this month, with the project hoping to support  500 schools which struggle with poor discipline over the next three years. Gavin Williamson, the UK s education secretary, said the use of mobile phones distracts from healthy exercise and good old-fashioned play and acts as a breeding ground for cyber-bullying, and the inappropriate use of social media sites .
