The owner of a shopping center is suing an Ocala movie theater operator and accusing it of not paying the rent.
In the lawsuit, Marion S.C. Company LTD., states that Delray Square Cinemas Inc., owner of the cinema at 2021 E. Silver Springs Blvd., owes $104,799.75 through March.
The lawsuit contents Delray Square Cinemas was served with a notice to pay rent or deliver possession, but tenant refuses to do either. Delray Square is led by Cesar and Carmen Soto of Ocala, according to Florida corporate records.
The movie theater, known as Ocala Centre 6, has been closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a white sheet of paper posted on its door Thursday, the establishment is temporarily closed until further notice due to mandatory shut down of all movie theaters issued by the Governor of Florida, although some theaters have reopened.
