CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville might be getting a more robust Police Civilian Review Board, but it’s going to take time and lots of discussions. That started on Tuesday night in a joint meeting between the PCRB and City Council.
Before the lengthy discussion began, Mayor Nikuyah Walker said we’re not going to get through this if we’re not open, even if the questions are heated.
Charlottesvilleâs Police Civilian Review Board tiptoed around Police Chief RaShall Brackneyâs recent press conference on claims of racial profiling while bemoaning shortcomings in its ability to review the case Thursday.
The press conference hung heavily over the beginning of the boardâs meeting, with some board members criticizing the chiefâs actions and others saying it wasnât in the boardâs purview to weigh in.
Last week, Brackney held a press conference to refute claims of racial profiling made by leaders of the Unitarian Universalists of Charlottesville Church following an October incident. In the press conference, she called on the churchâs leadership to apologize or be terminated.
