Certainly, Wyatt Earp didn’t play cowboys and Indians growing up in Pella, Iowa. We know because it would be decades before cowboys were glorified enough for little boys to imitate, and Indians were still too real and seen as too dangerous. But this is about all that’s certain for the years when Wyatt was a lad.
The final exhibition room of the Wyatt Earp Experience allows visitors to reflect on who they think Wyatt Earp really was in life and legend.

Pella’s Historic Preservation Commission will review an application to form a historic district in the Collegiate Neighborhood north of Independence Street and west of Main.
A public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening for the group to give a formal recommendation to the Pella City Council. According to the City of Pella, historic district overlay zones are geographically cohesive areas with significant concentrations of buildings and other resources that possess a high degree of historical integrity and convey a district sense of time and place and that have been designated as a historic district by the city council pursuant to the proposed ordinance.
The Pella Police Department has announced Senior Officer Matt Huston has been appointed as the new Criminal Investigations Detective, and Officer JR Pearson has been appointed our new School Resource Officer.
Detective Matt Huston has been with the department since 2003 when he started as a reserve officer and was later hired as a full time officer in 2004. Huston is a field training officer, certified defensive tactics instructor, OC and chemical munitions instructor, is a member of the department’s tactical team, and is currently finishing his EMT certification.
Pearson has been in law enforcement for 36 years, and spent much of his career with the Iowa State Patrol and joined the Pella PD in 2019. Pearson is looking forward to working with the students and faculty at local schools.
