Kay Menzies
The Board of Directors of the Belize Electric Company Limited (BECOL) has appointed Kay Menzies as President and C.E.O. of the corporation effective June first. The appointment follows the retirement of Lynn Young, outgoing President and C.E.O., after a thirty year career in the electricity sector. Menzies has considerable board experience having held chair and director positions at Belize Port Authority, Belize Trade and Investment Development Service, Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Economic Development Council, and Grace Kennedy (Belize) Limited. She has also been a director on the board of Belize Electricity Limited. Lynn Young is taking up a new role as Ambassador Designate to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States and High Commission to Canada.

The Benque Viejo, San Ignacio, and Belmopan Rotary Clubs teamed up on Thursday to nationally and internationally showcase the 19th Voice of the West. The event was viewable on Facebook, Instagram, and The National Channel.
Some 23 students participated this year in three categories. The first-place winner in the Original Poem category was Leanne Miralda, from the Belmopan Baptist High School. First place in the Published Poem and Excerpt category also went to Melbourne McLaren from the Eden Seventh Day Adventist High School. Then came the Persuasive Speech category, and coming in the first place there was Covenant Adegbami from the Grace Christian Academy. All first-place winners won $300.00 and a trophy for their school.
