An election for two Mesquite ISD school board seats is approaching. Four candidates, including two incumbents, have filed to run for the seats.
Here’s what you can expect to see on your ballot for the May 1 election. Early voting starts April 19.
Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees election
Place 6: Incumbent Elaine Hornsby Whitlock will run against Devan Minyard. Whitlock was elected to the seat in 2015. Minyard is a first-time candidate who has served on the district’s School Health Advisory Committee and on a decision-making committee at Berry Middle School.

HOOVER, AL Each year, the Robert O. Finley Committee for Character Education awards its highest honor The Finley Award to two graduating seniors and one Hoover City Schools employee.
This year, nearly 150 Finley Character Award Winners, along with the three Finley Award winners, will be recognized at The Finley Ceremony on March 18th.
Due to COVID-19, this year s ceremony will just feature the middle and high school grade-level winners, along with the top three winners.
Subscribe Finley refers to longtime W.A. Berry High School Coach Bob Finley, a man known for integrity and good character. He passed away in 1994.

When we embarked on a comprehensive Master Facilities Plan to upgrade our Worthington Schools over four years ago, it always was intended to be a collaboration between our community and the schools. You entrusted us to follow through on your vision for the future, and now we are delivering on that commitment.
Watching Phase 1 of our three-phase capital-improvements plan become reality is incredibly exciting. By reconfiguring our elementary schools to kindergarten through fifth grade, we are allowing for the current growth in our elementary schools. This also allows us to completely redesign the middle school experience to include grades 6 through 8.
Shaw named permanent director for schools foundation

The Hoover City Schools Foundation, like many nonprofits, had a challenging year in 2020 but was able to bring on a new executive director on a permanent basis.
Shelley Shaw, the wife of Hoover Councilman Mike Shaw, had been serving as interim executive director for the foundation since October of 2019, following the departure of former Executive Director Janet Turner.
A year later, the foundationâs board of directors unanimously decided to make that a permanent change.
