After taking a year off, the contest – dubbed Hope is Growing – is being run by local Communities in Bloom chapters as part of a nationwide effort to highlight gardens that have brought hope and joy during the second summer of the pandemic.

“Gardens are very uplifting, so a lot of people have put a lot of effort (into gardening),” committee member Barb Hacking said. “They’ve had more time to get involved with gardening, many for the first time.”

The local Communities in Bloom committee wants to splash Stratford in yellow this summer.
It’s part of a national campaign called Planting Hope, as communities are encouraged to grow something yellow the colour of hope.

“After two summers of being in a pandemic, I think everyone needs (hope) nowadays,” local Communities in Bloom member Barb Hacking said.
Three trees were planted Thursday morning at the Ted Blowes Memorial Pollinator Peace Garden two butterfly magnolia trees and a yellow bird magnolia tree, which all bloom yellow.
