PG Native Friendship Centre says more needs to be done to assist homeless population

Prince George’s first true stretch of winter is expected to provide some challenges to our homeless population as well as those accessing food banks.
PG Native Friendship Centre Executive Director, Barb Ward-Burkitt told
MyPGNow.com while our homeless population is scrambling to seek shelter, finding a place to stay is only half the battle.
“It’s not just about providing a bed and a meal. We want to work with individuals to get them to the point where they can perhaps get into independent housing, get connected to housing and health supports.”
Tomorrow’s (Friday) Christmas Dinner hosted by the St. Vincent de Paul Society will be take-out only.

MyPGNow.com it pains them to alter one of the biggest meals.
“It saddens us but there is no other way we can do it. Those in need will be given a full turkey dinner in packages but they will have to take it home and due to the pandemic we can’t have people inside, that really bothers us.”
“It’s not our ideal Christmas dinner but we have to take some solace in that we are able to continue to feed through the generosity of the people of Prince George, which has been phenomenal.”
