Western Australia on alert after FIFO worker tests positive to Covid-19 after returning to Perth

A fly-in fly-out worker has tested positive to Covid-19 in Perth after flying into the city s airport from a rural mine - as hundreds of travellers are ordered to self-isolate. Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan said the worker tested positive to the virus after returning from the Fortescue Cloudbreak mine site in the state s north-west on July 27. The worker returned a weak positive result and authorities are unsure when, or for how long, he was infectious in the community, but say it could be as long as 16 days.  His girlfriend was tested and has returned a negative result.  He is believed to have caught the virus at Perth Airport on July 20 from a traveller who flew to WA after completing hotel quarantine in Queensland.

West Australian mine worker returns very weak positive coronavirus test

Share on Twitter A fly-in, fly-out mine worker has tested positive to coronavirus in Western Australia and may have been infectious while in the community. Premier Mark McGowan says the man returned a very weak positive test result at his workplace in recent days but has since tested negative. He had previously tested positive to the virus in March or April last year. The man worked at Fortescue Metal Group s Cloudbreak mine in the Pilbara between 20 July and 27 July and subsequently attended venues in Fremantle, Scarborough and Subiaco. He is believed to have contracted the virus at Perth Airport from a Queensland man who flew into Perth last month and was subsequently denied entry to WA. That man tested positive to the Alpha variant of the virus upon returning to Brisbane.
