By The Editorial Board What is Maine’s greatest gift to the world? That’s the question being asked as part of the American Innovation $1 Coin Program, announced last week by the Office of the State Treasurer. Beginning in 2019 and running through 2032, the U.S. Mint is issuing $1 coins for each state and territory, as well as Washington, D.C. Each will feature a “state-specific innovation and/or innovator in the field of science, its impact and connection to the state.” Maine’s will come in 2024.
