Tractor-Trailer Crash Kills Western Mass Man…Driver to Be Charged
A major accident on the Mass Turnpike in Becket on Friday claimed the life of a 69-year-old Western Mass man according to a report released by the Mass State Police. According to the report Troopers from the Lee Barracks responded Friday afternoon at 3:22 to a crash on the east bound side of the Mass Pike involving a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles.
According to the report, the results of the preliminary investigation by State Police and the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office will lead to criminal charges against driver of the tractor-trailer that rear ended a Toyota Camry driven by Gary Litwin of Ludlow. Litwin’s vehicle was then forced into a Toyota van.
Board of Health Chairman John Meaney, who as general manager of Northern Berkshire EMS has been part of the group operating the clinic, said it wasn t clear how many North Adams residents that included. As of last week, more than 5,000 residents in North Adams and Clarksburg had received at least one dose. The state tracks inoculations by ZIP code, which the city and town share, and may also include the town of Florida. The Berkshire Vaccine Collaborative is open to any Massachusetts residents and those who work or attend school here but reside in other states. The clinic has been able to administer double the number of doses when it first opened, with more than 1,500 per clinic last week. But the number is dependent on the doses the collaborative gets from the state.
NORTH ADAMS â Ron and Rob Ferris thought they might cut hair for the rest of their lives.
The brothers, third generation barbers, worked together for decades in the family business. In the 1970 s, Ronald, Robert and their older brother George took over the shop that their grandfather had started, and they remained a constant presence in North Adams, even as hairstyles evolved and the city changed.
Then the pandemic struck.
Business slowed to a trickle. George, their oldest brother, died in a car accident in the fall. And, just after Christmas, Ron, 78, and Rob, 66, both landed in the hospital with COVID-19.
