Classrooms across the state can go into the running for a visit from rugby league legend Johnathan Thurston with Get Ready Queensland’s 2021 schools competition launching this week.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Local Government, Infrastructure and Planning Steven Miles encouraged all primary schools to enter the competition, which helps students learn about natural disasters and how to prepare for them in a creative way.
“Queensland has more natural disasters than any other state, and while we cannot change the weather, we can be prepared,” The Deputy Premier said.

A childcare centre with a yoga studio for parents and a design inspired by local forests, lakes and mountains is planned for the Sunshine Coast.
A development application has been lodged for a Habitat Early Learning Centre at Peregian Springs to offer Montessori early education from birth to school aged children.
The centre would replace a vacant commercial building that was previously used as a property sales office at 2 Longwood Drive.
The proposed plans submitted to Sunshine Coast Council said that the centre would help meet demand for community facilities. A development application has been lodged with Sunshine Coast Council for a childcare centre at 2 Longwood Drive, Peregian Springs.

Drug trafficking charge after discovery of hydroponic cannabis setup, Noosaville
Noosa detectives yesterday, as part of an-ongoing drug operation code-named Operation Romeo Rhino, discovered an alleged large-scale and sophisticated cannabis production set-up which saw a 38-year-old man arrested and charged with drug trafficking.
Police executed four search warrants at addresses in Lysaght Street, Coolum Beach, Bellbird Drive, Peregian Springs, Straker Street, Cooroy and Leo Alley Drive, Noosaville.
It will be alleged at a Leo Alley Drive business police located a commercial cannabis production with officers discovering four shipping containers converted into grow rooms. Police seized approximately 27kgs of the illicit drug consisting of around 100 plants, as well as dried cannabis in cryovac bags. A number of exhibits were also seized including electrical appliances and lighting.
