Miguel Perkins spent the last 20 years working for the Oceanside Unified school district as a custodian. His wife Minerva Perkins said he had no intentions of retiring, but when COVID-19 struck their family and sent them both to the hospital, everything changed. I wasn t really thinking or counting that I was going to be in the hospital too, said Minerva, 61.

In mid-March, Minerva tested positive for COVID-19, just a week before she had gotten her first dose of the Pfizer shot, but the virus also spread to her husband Miguel,71, who had diabetes and was not yet vaccinated.

The future of outdoor dining in San Diego could soon change! Lots of restaurants went from barely surviving at the start of this pandemic to thriving all due to dining al fresco. The invested a lot of money in the outdoor awnings, lights, etc. Well now, they may have to take them down. The statewide health emergency is expected to be lifted June 15 and the temporary permits to operate outside are set to expire in July. However, Mayor Todd Gloria has said he hopes to find a solution that would allow the restaurants to continue with outdoor dining.
OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – The Parent Association announced it will be holding a rally in support of parents wanting an immediate return to a full-time, five-day-a-week schedule of in-person instruction in the Oceanside Unified School District.
The rally will take place on Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 at 9am, at the District Headquarters of Oceanside Unified. The next scheduled Board Meeting for Oceanside Unified will start at 6pm that same day.
Ally Mineau, co-director of the Oceanside chapter of the Parent Association, joined Good Morning San Diego and says “this has gone on long enough. They’ve had over a year to plan, they’ve got plenty of money to make it safe, and yet our Board continues to ignore what is best for our kids and robbing them of their right to in-person education to the greatest extent possible.”
