Oregon added 816 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, including 48 in the mid-valley, the Oregon Health Authority reported on Wednesday as case counts surged for the third consecutive week.
OHA also reported three new deaths attributed to the disease: a 66-year-old woman in Tillamook County, an 88-year-old woman in Union County and a 56-year-old man in Klamath County. Both women had underlying health conditions, OHA reported, but the man did not.
The latest fatalities raise Oregonâs death toll to 2,449 since the start of the pandemic. The stateâs cumulative case count stands at 172,206.
Beachgoers in Hawaii were warned to stay out of the water Tuesday after three large tiger sharks were seen feeding on the decomposing carcass of a Hawaiian Humpback whale.
Additional cases have been reported at South Albany High School related to a previously announced case.

ALBANY, Ore. – Officials with Greater Albany Public School are reporting a COVID-19 outbreak on Friday.
Additional cases have been reported at South Albany High School related to a previously announced case.
District officials also added a positive COVID-19 case has been identified at Periwinkle Elementary School.
Additional information about these cases will not be released in order to protect the individuals’ privacy, the district said.
The schools are working with Benton and Linn counties’ public health officials to respond to the cases.
