FWC rescues passengers after 31-foot vessel sinks near Big Marco Pass
About a dozen passengers were rescued after a 31-foot vessel sunk near Big Marco Pass on Sunday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard s 7th District.
All of the passengers, in total 13, were recovered, said Erik Villa, a spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission took the lead on responding to the incident. The coast guard did not receive reports of any injuries from the incident, Villa said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission did not respond to a request for information before publication of this story.

NORTH MANITOU ISLAND, MICH. A plucky Great Lakes piping plover that had been feared dead has been spotted alive in her wintering grounds, to the delight of researchers and fans of these endangered birds.
The 10-year-old female plover had last been seen this summer on Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore’s North Manitou Island, a significant breeding spot for the species.

A married couple were setting sail to follow their dream when they ran into trouble by Sand Dollar Island near Marco Island overnight. A rescue tow boat responded to help them out, and things went from bad to worse when both boats capsized.
The 42-foot, $250,000 sailboat was stuck about a mile out in the water and ended up on its side with a hole in it on Marco Wednesday.
Paul van Gils and his wife, Claudia, were ready to set sail around the country, but they’ve lost almost everything at this point.
