State closes case: by Derek Achong The Of­fice of the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions (DPP) has closed its case against two men ac­cused of mur­der­ing six-year-old Sean Luke as teenagers. The State s last wit­ness in the case, re­tired Sgt Alex­is Gar­cia, who served as the lead in­ves­ti­ga­tor, com­plet­ed his cross-ex­am­i­na­tion dur­ing a vir­tu­al hear­ing be­fore Jus­tice Lisa Ram­sumair-Hinds, yes­ter­day. Jus­tice Ram­sumair-Hinds will now hear and de­ter­mine no-case sub­mis­sions from the duo s at­tor­neys, who are like­ly to claim that pros­e­cu­tors have pre­sent­ed in­suf­fi­cient ev­i­dence link­ing their clients to the heinous crime.

Court reserves decision in driver’s demerit points appeal by Derek Achong The Court of Ap­peal has re­served its de­ci­sion on an ap­peal over the ap­pro­pri­ate court to hear chal­lenges against the sus­pen­sion of dri­ver’s per­mits due to the ac­cu­mu­la­tion of de­mer­it points. Fol­low­ing a vir­tu­al hear­ing yes­ter­day, Ap­pel­late Judges Al­ice Yorke-Soo Hon, Pe­ter Ra­jku­mar and Ron­nie Boodoos­ingh de­ferred their de­ci­sion in the case brought by a dri­ver from Arou­ca, whose dri­ver’s per­mit was sus­pend­ed for six months af­ter he re­ceived three tick­ets in the space of five months, last year.
