The early morning sun crept up over the eastern horizon. Its rays started painting splotches on the ski runs across the vast Park City ridgeline. It was a stage show of light as the heavens waved their magic wand, illuminating the mountain peaks, down pristine white ski runs and igniting the fresh rime crystals hanging delicately on the sagebrush with the dawn’s early light.

SALT LAKE CITY A winter storm system is bringing cold temperatures to northern Utah valleys and snow to the mountains Tuesday.
According to Cache County police dispatchers, U.S. Highway 89 through Logan Canyon was closed in both directions just after 2:30 p.m. due to whiteout conditions but was reopened around 4:30 p.m.
Traction laws went into effect just before noon for state Routes 190 and 210 through Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood canyons, meaning that traction devices such as tire chains or four-wheel are required for vehicles driving those roads.
Precipitation started around midday Tuesday and is expected to continue through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Valleys will likely only see traces of snow up to an inch, but northern Utah mountains could see 8-12 inches, according to KSL Weather Meteorologist Grant Weyman.
SALT LAKE CITY Snowy conditions caused multiple slide-offs up Big Cottonwood Canyon and closed both directions of state Route 190 for awhile on Thursday, according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler.
A slide-off crash was reported up the canyon along with another crash further down. While an officer responded to that crash, someone hit the patrol car, though the officer was uninjured in the incident.
Both uphill and downhill traffic is now permitted after uphill traffic was closed for about an hour around 6:30 p.m.
Traction laws are in effect for both Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons.
The northern Utah snowstorm could bring up to 10 inches in the mountains and 4 inches in the valleys on Thursday, according to KSL Meteorologist Grant Weyman.
