I love the peacefulness of a gondola car by yourself. I looked out to the Jordanelle in the morning light as the sun painted rays onto the snowscape. I slipped off my Stormy Kromer hat,…

Anna Pillman loves to hike.
“It’s a passion, but almost an obsession,” said the 24-year-old Parkite, laughing. “I think about hiking all the time.”
Her love for hitting the trails spurred her to create her online blog, ParkCityHikes.com, a website that features photos, statistics, difficulty rankings and Pillman’s personal take on hikes in Park City, Salt Lake City and around the world.
“I’ve been thinking about doing this for a little while,” Pillman said. “I was always telling my friends about hiking and giving tips to people. So I thought this would be a good way to share my passion with more people and continue to push myself and try out new trails.”

The early morning sun crept up over the eastern horizon. Its rays started painting splotches on the ski runs across the vast Park City ridgeline. It was a stage show of light as the heavens waved their magic wand, illuminating the mountain peaks, down pristine white ski runs and igniting the fresh rime crystals hanging delicately on the sagebrush with the dawn’s early light.
I’ve watched this scene for three decades from our home and it never gets old. It’s the light switch telling me to get out the door. As a photographer, I look at the nuances of light on the landscape. They tell a unique story every day.
