AS lockdown restrictions continue to ease, Flintshire County Council is encouraging residents to get out and explore some of the roads and sights less travelled in the region. Many popular spots for scenic walks and attractions have automatically been top of people’s lists as the weather improved and restrictions reduced. And Flintshire County Council is keen to ensure the public maintain social distancing and other Covid regulations to stay safe. During peak periods, Wepre Park was so busy that the car park was closed to manage visitor numbers and maintain social distancing. The Leader previously reported that Wepre Park was also busy during the lockdown which left residents feeling frustrated .
REDEVELOPMENT work on a historical site in Mold has reached the final stages. Bailey Hill is the site of an early medieval castle established by the Normans in the late 11th Century. And a redevelopment project at the site has seen work, which started in January 2020, on an open air performance area, improved access to the site and redevelopment of the Custodian’s Cottage into a facility for the benefit of the community. Practical completion on the external works and the improvements to the Custodians Cottage has now been reached, described by the Bailey Hill Steering Group as great achievement.

Bob Gaffey is standing to represent the village of Gwernymynydd on Flintshire County Council on Thursday (May 6, 2021), following the death of Councillor Kevin Hughes earlier this year. The 63-year-old died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in January after being admitted with the coronavirus the previous month. Mr Gaffey, who is standing for Plaid Cymru, is one of two candidates vying to become the independent councillor’s successor, along with Kevin’s son Andy Hughes.

A quick glance at the Game Thyme Food Truck logo elicits different visions. Foodies might think it’s a garlic bulb, but sharp, outdoor trackers place the toe print immediately.
“Hunters always immediately recognize it as an elk hoof,” Cordon Bleu-trained chef Matt Donnelly said. “I end up running out of elk meat almost every day.”
By Donnelly’s estimation, Game Thyme’s wild meat venture, undertaken officially in March, has so far been a success. From a summer in Yachats, back to his home base in Florence to his newest excursion in Eugene, Donnelly’s cooking for packed parking lots. Served most often on a taco, Game Thyme’s menu offers an inexpensive lunch packed with flavor.
