PCW holds songwriting contest

(PCW) The “MusikJuana Songwriting Contest,” organized by the Philippine Commission on Women, aims to make music as an advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Music pieces must focus on BPfA’s 12 areas of concern which are: poverty, education and training, health, violence, armed conflict, economy, power and decision-making, institutional mechanisms, human rights, media, environment, and the girl and the child. The contest is open to all Filipino composers and songwriters who currently reside in the Philippine. Each entry must be an original work of the contestant and all rights, including copyright, must be owned exclusively by the contestant.

Apr 27 2021 - A renowned Pacific gender equality champion and Technical Advisor of Shifting the Power Coalition, Sharon Bhagwan Rolls, believes that gender equality is about men and women working together and this can be achieved by diversifying media content to break gender stereotypes. She highlighted this while speaking on Women and the Media, which is one of the 12 priority areas of concern in the Beijing Platform for Action (BPA) on Gender Equality. The BPA is a resolution adopted by the United Nations at the end of the Fourth World Conference on Women on 15 September 1995. The resolution adopted to promulgate a set of principles concerning the equality of men and women.

Artists shine light on gender equality at soirée in Pretoria By Valerie Boje Share Pretoria - There have been gains in achieving gender equality in recent years, but many challenges which remain have been aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The first part of the 2021 United Nations Gender Equality Forum, hosted virtually by Mexico, wrapped up at the end of March, with the second to be hosted by France at the end of June. These events are intended to accelerate action for the achievement of gender equality and the rights and dignity of women and girls. Mexico is significant as it was here the first UN World Conference on Women, held in Mexico City in 1975, led to the adoption of a plan of action to eliminate discrimination and promote the full participation of women in society.
