Artists shine light on gender equality at soirée in Pretoria By Valerie Boje Share Pretoria - There have been gains in achieving gender equality in recent years, but many challenges which remain have been aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The first part of the 2021 United Nations Gender Equality Forum, hosted virtually by Mexico, wrapped up at the end of March, with the second to be hosted by France at the end of June. These events are intended to accelerate action for the achievement of gender equality and the rights and dignity of women and girls. Mexico is significant as it was here the first UN World Conference on Women, held in Mexico City in 1975, led to the adoption of a plan of action to eliminate discrimination and promote the full participation of women in society.
