Smaller fires were also extinguished near the road leading towards the Mount Currie new site, and under the set of power lines near the intersection of Urdal Road and Poplar Road, said Mack.
The Meadows Road fire was called in shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. While the smaller fires were simpler to contain, Mack said the larger one required a lot of manpower there and a lot of equipment. We had Forestry involved with the one up on the Meadows Road because it actually jumped across the Ryan River and got going on the other side, said Mack. We had to bring in Raye Shier and his crews and fall a bunch of trees.
Douglas said the recommended traffic times for Highway 99 are expected to be released soon to the public and provide people with the ability to plan ahead to avoid road closures. We are taking a bit of a different approach because the road closures are not exactly black and white, she said, adding as soon as the last riders are cleared off the course the road will be opened. For this first year we are being conservative with information because we want to make sure people are successfully getting where they want to go we are reluctant to be specific about closure times because we will lift them as soon as we can.
