As you may have heard by now, I am bringing back to local ownership the 180-year-old Bennington Banner, the 160-year-old Manchester Journal and the 145-year-old Brattleboro Reformer.
I learned about Brattleboro and, for that matter, about Vermont, by reading the Reformer, the Banner and the Journal and made my investment decision based on the quality of the journalism I found in the publications.
I decided to invest in southern Vermont because I believe the Green Mountain State embodies all the things that make the American Dream so attractive to people around the world â grit, determination, self-reliance, stoicism and creativity. But, most importantly, I moved here because of the community â people who support each other through thick and thin, who rise to challenges unheard of 30 years ago when I first arrived on these shores.

Iâm back from a week as guest news editor of the Bennington Banner, and while Iâve been busy, the Legislature has been busier.

BENNINGTON â The Southern Vermont Homebrew Festival, cancelled in 2020, will return for 2021, the Southwestern Vermont Chamber of Commerce announced Monday. The sixth annual event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 7 from noon to 4 p.m. on Depot Street in Bennington.
âWe are excited to be back with the Vermont governorâs announcement that things will return to some sort of normal by July 4th,â Matt Harrington, executive director of the chamber, said in a release. âWe have partnered again with Hopridge [Farms] and Will Gardner to produce an eclectic festival which is about brew, summer, music and friends.â
