History Center to offer free admission for teachers in May

To mark Teacher Appreciation Week, which starts Monday, the Senator John Heinz History Center and its family of museums will offer free admission for teachers and educators during the month of May. All educators, including grades K-12 and college, with a valid teacher ID are eligible to receive free admission to the Heinz History Center, Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, Fort Pitt Museum, and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village. Free admission includes access to the History Center exhibit, “American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith,” developed in partnership with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. From staff reports PITTSBURGH In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, the Senator John Heinz History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum will host its first Sensory Friendly Days on April 18 and April 19. Sensory Friendly Days, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods, will offer individuals of all ages with autism spectrum disorders or sensory processing differences the opportunity to experience “the Smithsonian’s home in Pittsburgh” in a comfortable and welcoming environment. The center is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all visitors. In partnership with Autism Connections of Pennsylvania and additional leaders in the region’s autism community, the center has identified and implemented modifications to support a more sensory-friendly experience, including but not limited to, mitigation of sudden/loud sounds and motions, lighting adjustments, designated break and rest spaces and family restrooms and increased directional signage throughou
