Editorial: Donald Cerrone should retire, because retirement is never about defeat

It was pretty undignified, all things considered. For years, Donald Cerrone was a proud gatekeeper. Having fought for multiple titles throughout his career, his fight canvas includes battles through multiple divisions across multiple organizations. I say ‘awkward’ because it was a lazy punch entry for Cerrone. The kind of entry you know makes sense in his mind a kind of stepping straight right I guess but his mind wasn’t getting the same sense from his body. By the time Cerrone is square with Morono, his legs are crossed, and his hands aren’t even fully up. Then Morono smacks Cerrone with a hard, but funny-looking ridgehand.

Alex Morono believes Donald Cerrone should not retire after handing the veteran another loss, making it five losses in his previous six fights and winless since May 2019.
Questions have arose from fans and media alike whether the time has come for Cerrone to hang up the gloves after the fighter has shown clear signs of declining in skillset the last couple of fights. Cerrone is clearly past his prime and not the gunslinging “Cowboy” that many have come to love.
Many in the MMA community wish to see the legend retire after five losses in his previous six after Morono mercilessly TKO’d Cerrone in the first round. However, Morono still believes “Cowboy” still has some fight left in him and believes he should be able to call his final shots regarding his career.

Michael Chandler wasn’t sure exactly what would come next for him after tearing through Dan Hooker in his UFC debut back in January.
Following a 10-year career with Bellator MMA, the former two-time lightweight champion for the promotion opted to sign with the UFC after reaching free agency. It took some time to book his first fight but Chandler certainly made the most of it by knocking out Hooker inside three minutes into the opening round.
Afterwards, Chandler was just as impressive on the microphone as he served notice to each and every lightweight in the UFC that a new contender had arrived and he was ready to start checking names off his list as he sought the opportunity to become champion.
