Since the only way to stop global warming hasn’t yet even been proposed (much less tried), I shall now publicly propose it here, in accord with the adage “Better late than never.”

Governors Wind Energy Coalition Shell to Appeal Landmark Dutch Court Ruling on Climate Goals Source: By Laura Hurst, Bloomberg • Posted: Wednesday, July 21, 2021 Royal Dutch Shell Plc said it will appeal a ruling by a Dutch court which ordered it to cut its carbon emissions by 45% over the next decade. Shell has said it will speed up its energy transition plans in response to the order, but is looking to overturn it so it can stick to its own climate timetable. After intense pressure from investors, the May 26 ruling showed companies’ hands may increasingly be forced by courts, and result in far-reaching implications for the global energy industry.

Shell to appeal against Netherlands climate ruling

Advertisement Shell has said that it will appeal a ruling issued by the District Court in The Hague in May 2021 that Shell must reduce its global net carbon emissions by 45% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. Shell said that the court did not consider the details of its Powering Progress strategy, which was published in April 2021, because the hearings that led to the ruling took place several months earlier. “We agree urgent action is needed and we will accelerate our transition to net zero,” said Shell Chief Executive, Ben van Beurden. “But we will appeal because a court judgment, against a single company, is not effective. What is needed is clear, ambitious policies that will drive fundamental change across the whole energy system. Climate change is a challenge that requires both urgent action and an approach that is global, collaborative and encourages coordination between all parties.”

Wogegen geht Shell in Berufung?
