Election security breaches kept secret under this Florida legislation

Voting rights groups, government watchdogs and members of Florida’s congressional delegation have pushed for greater transparency in disclosing those security breaches, but ameasure by Sen. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze, would go the opposite direction.  “We’ve seen in past elections a real invasion from outside sources to try to intimidate and change certain information,” Broxson said Tuesday in introducing the bill (SB 1704). “It happened in my county.” In its first committee hearing, the bill was cleared without debate or objection. It has two more committees before it reaches the Senate floor. Because the bill expands an existing public records exemption, it will need a two-thirds vote for final passage.

Should details of elections security breaches in Florida be kept from the public?

Should details of elections security breaches in Florida be kept from the public? Updated:  Tags:  JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The 2020 election raised many concerns, prompting protests across the country as ballots were counted and recounted in various states. The integrity of the election process was called into question repeatedly, often without evidence to back the claims. Now, the Florida Legislature is reviewing the state’s elections process. A proposal in the state Senate (SB 1704) would make it easier for local election officials to keep security about the voting machines, and information about any possible breaches, a secret. The legislation would exempt certain records that involve the inner working of voting machines and the security measures in place from being subject to public records requests.

Source: Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology Jasmine Pene fell in love with music as a child, but only recently tapped into her musical skills.  The Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology Certificate and Diploma in Music graduate was recently crowned winner at the 2020 E Tū Whānau Song Competition.  Jasmine (aka Jazo) (Te Arawa, Ngāti Porou) was awarded $5000 for her song Your Mind is the Garden.  The judges said the song’s smooth synth sounds, and Jazo’s warm and close vocal delivery made for dreamy listening. They said the waiata also offered musical sanctuary through dark personal times by celebrating opportunities in life with optimism and hope.

Florida Filters Public COVID Data While Virus Takes a Toll Gov. Ron DeSantis and his administration continue to claim complete transparency when it comes to the state’s COVID data and response, but many researchers are unable to get any kind of robust look at the state’s numbers. Mary Ellen Klas, The Miami Herald   |   March 1, 2021   |  Analysis (TNS) For months, Thomas Hladish, a research scientist at the University of Florida s Emerging Pathogens Institute, asked the Florida Department of Health to let him use information from thousands of contact tracers the state had hired to interview Floridians who tested positive for COVID-19.
