Short-film and documentary platform FILMPIXS to launch on 17 February

New streaming platform FILMPIXS is set to launch globally on 17 February with a primary focus on short films and feature-length documentaries that “will spotlight engaging social impact stories and new voices in filmmaking”. Content on the site is set to be curated from a number of festivals – amongst them Cannes, Venice, Toronto and Sundance – and the platform is due to be made available globally (though a small selection of titles may be geoblocked), and come with both monthly and annual subscriptions. The streaming service will be available via its own website, filmpixs.com, as well as via the FILMPIXS app, available on iOS, Android and other formats.
Eugene Weekly spoke via Zoom with newlyweds Matt and Molly Newhard, and Ben Weibe and Ruth Ames. Both couples say they found themselves getting closer during the pandemic, despite or perhaps because of the closeness it induced.
The Newhards were married on Aug. 4, 2019, about six months before the shutdown. Molly Newhard bartends at First National Taphouse downtown, and Matt Newhard was front-of-house manager of the now-closed La Perla. They are originally from Colorado.
They didn’t go on their honeymoon directly following the wedding, planning instead to do that on a later date. “We went on an annual Valentine’s day trip to Leavenworth, Washington, and they were already being shut down up there,” Matt Newhard says of their honeymoon.
Este año, la Sección Oficial de Punto de Vista se organizará en 10 programas donde se proyectarán películas que exploran una gran diversidad de temas, desde observaciones de lo doméstico y lo cotidiano, el paisaje y las psico-geografías, hasta reflexiones sobre la historia, violencia de género o compositoras de música experimental. Además, también habrá películas que destacan por su uso de archivos fotográficos y documentales. La Sección Oficial ha sido programada por Nuria Cubas, María Palacios, Matías Piñeiro, Miguel Zozaya y Garbiñe Ortega.
Las películas han sido seleccionadas entre más de 900 inscripciones y provienen de países como Nigeria, India, Japón, Estados Unidos, Reino Unido, España, Bélgica y México entre otros. Todas ellas son fieles al espíritu con el que nació el festival, captar la realidad desde su punto de vista independiente y necesario.
