Big Blue View mailbag: Defense in the draft, cap questions, 2021 outlook, more

Big Blue View mailbag: Defense in the draft, cap questions, 2021 outlook, more The mail’s here! Jason Byam asks: Instead of focusing on the 31st ranked offense and adding a playmaker, any chance the Giants would look to go all in on their defense? Try and establish a truly dominate defense using most of their resources on that side of the ball? Seems to me their Defense is much closer to being dominate than their offense and with Saquon coming back maybe their offense could be ‘good enough.’ Ed says: Jason, defense is obviously a possibility at No. 11. I believe wide receiver is more likely, but the Giants have defensive needs and their will be deserving defensive players at 11. If the Giants took linebacker Micah Parsons [Prospect of the Week profile], or went with cornerbacks Patrick Surtain or Caleb Farley [round table debate]. If they selected an edge rusher I wouldn’t like it, but I would certainly understand it.

Lessons New York Giants Can Learn From Cleveland Browns Turnaround

Lessons New York Giants Can Learn From Cleveland Browns Turnaround The Cleveland Browns have gone from being a laughingstock to a franchise that s on the rise. And they did it by following a nine-point plan that the Giants might want to consider following more closely. Author: Once upon a time, the Cleveland Browns used to be the laughingstock of the league. The “Brownies,” as their critics called them, couldn’t find a quarterback, and they had head coach after head coach (including Bill Belichick) fail. They experienced so much turnover in their front office that it was fair to wonder if the ink on the contracts signed by their administrators had even dried before they were replaced.

Stories of Patrick Graham’s journey from Yale to Giants coach, and the late teammate that inspired him Updated Feb 09, 2021; Posted Feb 09, 2021 Patrick Graham played football at Yale long before becoming the Giants defensive coordinator. (Photo courtesy of Yale Athletics) Facebook Share Patrick Graham, wearing Giants gear, was sitting in his East Rutherford office, staring at a computer screen, part of a Zoom call with 30 other faces, old friends and teammates he once knew his brothers at Yale. It was Aug. 31, toward the end of Graham’s first training camp as Giants defensive coordinator. His former teammates didn’t expect Graham to talk much. He was quiet at Yale, back when he was a little-used defensive lineman, not even sure if he loved football yet. He definitely never thought he’d become a coach. When Graham first went to Yale, he had dreams of joining the CIA one day. He started out majoring in chemical engineering.
