The preseason bonanza continued at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday morning (June 4), with a 15-race qualifying session dedicated to sophomore trotters and pacing fillies providing plenty of action at Ontario s premier harness racing venue.
No Pay No Way delivered a front-end 1:57.1 score in preparation for her upcoming season and registered the fastest trotting mile of the morning session in doing so. Trainer-driver Rick Zeron pushed the New York-eligible Credit Winner filly to the fore from post nine and controlled sectionals of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:28.3 before narrowly staving off a challenge from Meadowview Lilly (Scott Young) that lasted the length of the homestretch.
TROT Magazine Fantasy Stable?
Trot Insider will feature expert picks in advance of the deadline for this year s contest.
New to the panel of experts is multiple O Brien Award winner both as a breeder and an owner, Al Libfeld. Libfeld provided some added insight regarding his picks for the 2021 Fantasy Stable as the breeder and co-owner of two highly-touted trotting colts, Bonanza (pictured below) and Knights Guard. We [Marvin Katz and I] raised him and actually bought back in with Bud Hatfield and Brixton Medical, Libfeld told
Trot Insider. Same thing with Knights Guard; I raised him, he was purchased by Andy Miller, Marvin came in for a piece and I did as well.

Trainer Sara Baillargeon like many horsepeople stymied by the temporary shutdown of racing in Ontario has taken part of her family’s stable south into the United States, where she will bunker for the foreseeable future.
In a feature for COSA TV, Sara Baillargeon spoke to host Greg Blanchard about her move from Ontario and how she has adjusted to the culture of racing stateside. She brought down nine horses from her father Ben Baillargeon’s barn and is currently stabled at Magical Acres in Chesterfield, N.J. However, the decision to ship the stable was anything but a simple one.
With the May 21st deadline getting closer, to enter the 2nd annual COSA Fantasy Stable Contest, driver James MacDonald delivered his thoughts on the team he’ll select for the 2021 COSA contest.
James has high expectations for 2020 OSS Super Final winner Bulldog Hanover, who he selected from a highly-talented group of now sophomore pacers in Group K.
“Bulldog Hanover got shut down last year right when he was racing amazingly, which was probably the best thing for him. He destroyed the Super Final [field] and I would be thoroughly surprised if he didn’t come back bigger and stronger this year,” noted MacDonald.
Outlawgrabbingears cruised to a very handy win in Monday’s $13,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 Handicap at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and that makes it back-to-back triumphs in the top class for the five-year-old son of Smart Shark-Grand Slam Woman.
In rein to trainer/driver Paul Davies, Outlawgrabbingears sprinted to the lead from Post 6 and never looked back. The gelding powered through fractions of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:25.3 before using a :28.4 final quarter to win by 5-1/4 lengths over Easton Beach in 1:54.2. Cheddar Bay rounded out the Trifecta ticket in the six-horse affair.
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, Outlawgrabbingears made it 24 wins from 51 starts for owners Paul & Nicole Davies and Deborah Pinel. The pacer recently surpassed $300,000 in career earnings.
