Penn State faculty members are calling for more input from professors, students and staff in picking the next president of the university to replace Eric Barron, who is retiring in 2022.
More than 700 have signed an online petition started by Professor of Media Studies Mary Beth Oliver in support of more academic involvement in the search.
“We, the undersigned, want to express our concern that the search committee is largely devoid of input from people who are employed as faculty or staff at Penn State or who are obtaining advanced degrees at Penn State,” the petition reads, urging the ongoing process to be “substantially revised.”

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Transportation Services will open the new West Deck located at University Park’s West Campus at 6 a.m. Monday, May 10, for both permit holder and visitor parking.
With the opening of the West Deck, the two sections of Red A parking located along White Course Drive near the Westgate and Earth and Engineering Sciences buildings will close at midnight Sunday night (May 9), and all vehicles must be removed from these lots by that time. Permit holders who currently have access to Red A parking areas will have access to the West Deck until further notice.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. As students head home for the summer, Penn State’s Office of Physical Plant (OPP) will turn its attention to a wide range of campus construction and renovation projects at University Park.
OPP, along with Penn State Transportation Services and project contractors, will work to minimize disruptions to the campus community wherever possible. OPP updates an interactive construction map identifying construction projects across campus and the Campus Visitor Map also offers capital project construction information.
