Condolences on the passing of Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan
The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) wishes to inform the media, the energy industry and the general public of the passing of Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries on Saturday 17
th April, 2021.
Senator Franklin Khan was a Petroleum Geologist by profession, having spent twenty years in the energy sector both locally and abroad in a wide range of positions both at the technical and managerial levels.
Senator Khan held a BSc Degree in Geology and Geography (1980) from the UWI (Mona) Jamaica, and an MBA (2007) from the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, UWI (Trinidad).
The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries welcomes the Honourable Stuart Young
The Permanent Secretary (A.g) at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries Mrs. Penelope Bradshaw Niles along with other executives, welcomed the newly appointed Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, the Honourable Stuart R. Young, M.P. to the Ministry’s International Waterfront Complex Office today, 20 April 2021 where work immediately began with discussions related to the energy sector.
As an attorney-at-law and member of the Government Empowered Negotiation Team, the Honourable Minister Young worked on negotiations with international companies to finalize agreements on gas related issues and the restructuring of the gas value chain. This resulted in improved returns from the country’s hydrocarbon resources and overall financial and economic benefits to Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago along with 18 other CARICOM countries participated in the 88
th Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED)- Energy. This meeting took place via video conference on Thursday 28th January 2021. Led by Mrs. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, Permanent Secretary (Ag) of the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, the Trinidad and Tobago delegation continued talks with other CARICOM countries on charting the energy transition and thrust towards renewable energy within the region.
Discussions focused on pertinent energy issues to CARICOM Member States including: the current state of sustainable energy development; the need to mobilize capital towards the transformation of the energy markets; and the imperative for greater energy resilience in countering the sustained effects of natural disasters and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
