Readers: This Mother’s Day month, The SUMMIT Assisted Living, part of Benedictine Living Community – Crookston, is partnering with the Crookston Times to spotlight tenants who have children and/or grandchildren who work at Benedictine. Liz Thompson is being featured here.
Most anybody that has had the honor of living in Crookston the past few decades has more than likely enjoyed catching Liz Thompson in action sharing her singing and musical talents in the community.
Liz’s life journey began in Fargo. Both her older sisters were in high school when Liz was born. Her Grandparents spoke only Norwegian so communicating could be challenging at times. Liz’s virtuoso was apparent quite early; she began her “solo career” at 5 years old when she sang “Jesus Loves Me” for her church. She played violin in Orchestra and sang in the Choir through school.
Letter: BLC – Crookston celebrates Skilled Nursing Care Week
Ashley Melsa, volunteer coordinator, Benedictine Living Community – Crookston
Over the past year, despite the challenges of the pandemic, skilled care centers and their staff have shown an incredible and steadfast commitment to caring for and ensuring the safety of their residents. That is why Benedictine Living Community Crookston is thrilled to celebrate our heroic staff, residents, and their loved ones during National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) beginning on Mother’s Day, May 9, through Saturday, May 15.
This year’s theme, “Together through the Seasons,” honors the collaborative commitment of skilled nursing care facilities and their staff in providing compassionate, around-the-clock care to their residents during this unprecedented time.

We plan so many aspects of our lives. As young adults, thoughts are of when and how we will complete our education, begin our first job, or buy our first home. Later, the focus may be on when and where to go on vacation, the next grandchild’s sporting event or even retirement.
Yet, we often don’t think about how we want to live our lives. Advance care planning is a process of planning for future medical decisions. The process includes reflection on what is most important in our lives – hopes, dreams and aspirations to live life to its fullest potential now and at the end of life, values and beliefs (cultural, religious, spiritual, and personal).
