It was a week of mixed reviews for West Cumbrian traders and organisations, as food hygiene ratings have been announced. Copeland Borough Council has released the hygiene ratings for establishments across the borough, with a very mixed bag of scores. Receiving top ratings include The Globe, at Hensingham; Hole House Farm Holidays, at Whicham; Bethany House Residential Home at Corkickle, Whitehaven; Bethshan Nursing Home in Whitehaven; Lapstone House in Millom; and The Bake House, also in Millom. All of these businesses or groups received the top rating of five-out-of-five. Those receiving scores of four include Akash/La’al Indian, in Whitehaven; Canton Chef, at Cleator Moor; Art’s Thai Cuisine, also at Cleator Moor; and the Wasdale Head Inn, at Wasdale Head, Seascale.
Man taken to hospital after serious West Cumbria crash

A man in his 60s has been taken to hospital after a serious crash in West Cumbria.
Police were called at 9.24am to a collision outside Bethshan Nursing Home on Yewbarrow Close in Whitehaven.
Involved in the crash were a Vauxhall Vivaro and a Ford Fiesta.
Road closures were in place between the junctions of Meadow Road and Woodhouse Road while emergency services were on scene. The road has now reopened.
A spokeswoman for Cumbria Constabulary said: “A man in his 60s, from Ulverston, has been taken to the West Cumberland Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-changing.”
