GALESBURG For over 30 years, The Weekend: A Journey with Christ, initially known as Knox-Warren Chrysalis, has offered weekend youth retreats for teenagers with a religious focus.
The nondenominational Christian retreat has become a community fixture, with members of its governing board coming from various churches in the greater Galesburg area. Now, years after attending, some former participants have spoken out against its practices, likening it to a cult.
In a video released earlier in February, a former attendee of the weekend youth retreat alleges that The Weekend utilizes controlling methods to disorient the teenagers in their program, ostracize and preach against LGBTG people, and use the traumatic stories of teenagers and others to indoctrinate their visitors.
