It is a pleasure to write and share with you FP2030’s updates this month, as I take on the role of Interim Executive Director following Beth Schlachter’s departure at the end of April and ahead of the arrival of FP2030’s new Executive Director later this year. Beth’s great leadership over the past seven years has truly set us on a course to a successful FP2030 partnership. The transition to our new structure is well under way, led by the Transition Oversight Group, with the FP2030 secretariat and the Transition Management Team hard at work bringing it all together.

Transitions are moments of high possibility. A chance to start fresh; a chance to change course. An opportunity to build on what we ve learned and strike out in new directions. This year is a time of major transitions for our partnership, as FP2020 becomes FP2030.
It s also a time of personal transitions. As you know, the governance structure for our partnership is changing, and the search for a new Executive Director is well underway. When they come on board, it will be important for them to have a clean slate and a fresh horizon on which to build.
Our 2021 Year of Transition continues and I’m excited to announce two critical milestones in building the new partnership the launch of FP2030’s Commitments Toolkit and the call for expressions of interest to host regional hubs in Africa.
In the new FP2030 structure, FP2030 staff will be operating from five Regional Hubs that will be embedded within non-governmental host institutions in five cities to manage FP2030’s presence in these regions: North, West and Central Africa; East and Southern Africa; Asia and the Pacific; Latin America and the Caribbean; and North America and Europe. Applications for Expressions of Interest are now open for the two Africa Regional Hubs, with the deadline of April 30, 2021.

Family Planning 2020 is deeply honored to have facilitated the development of Ready to Save Lives: A Preparedness Toolkit for Sexual and Reproductive Health Care in Emergencies as part of FP2020’s commitment to fostering collaboration among humanitarian and development actors. At the 2017 London Family Planning Summit, members of the Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health (IAWG) in Crises insisted that a dialogue on scaling up access to quality family planning services must include consideration of women in humanitarian settings. IAWG called for partnerships between humanitarian and development organizations to ensure the fundamental right to family planning is not lost to people who are displaced by conflict, natural disasters, environmental degradation, and epidemics.
We were so excited to launch the next iteration of our global partnership in late January during a series of events and webinars, and we’ll be sharing more information as 2021 – our year of transition – unfolds. In the coming weeks and months, we will be hosting a series of webinars and discussions about the FP2030 partnership, from how our measurement framework has adapted, to how you can make your own commitment. We are continuing to add resources every day to help guide governments and other stakeholders as they develop their commitments. We also established a Transition Oversight Group (TOG) to oversee the transition of our governance and architecture, and to support the search for the next Executive Director – you can learn more about the TOG here.
