Friendly rivalry helped two members of Furness Pony Club to dominate a competition and claim the top two prizes in 1996. Lindsey Thompson and Beth Sutcliffe shot, swam, ran and rode their way through the four events in the gruelling competition, which was hosted by the West Cumberland Pony Club. RIDE: Furness Pony Club members on their daily grooming chores at the club’s annual summer camp at Cartmel Park in 1997 And the pair pushed each other all the way, winning all four disciplines between them. Beth, 17, was the top markswomen in the shooting contest but superb victories in the five-minute swim and the 1,500m run put 16-year-old Lindsey, of Plumpton Hall, Ulverston, in command.
