Houma-Thibodaux residents hope to save Louisiana Girl Scout camp

Houma-Thibodaux residents are hoping to save a Girl Scout camp near Hammond that could be sold in the near future.  Camp Whispering Pines is a 600-acre camp in Independence on the east side of Tangipahoa Parish that Girl Scouts have visited for decades for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and other outdoor activities.   Girl Scouts Louisiana East leaders informed members in June that they plan to sell the camp and use the money to invest in other projects.   The Girl Scouts held a members-only meeting Tuesday in Thibodaux to discuss plans for the sale. Houma resident and longtime scout Billie “Bee” Babin, who attended the meeting, said Camp Whispering Pines holds a special place in her heart.
