Burnley Council has conducted a review of its community lateral flow rapid Covid testing sites. From this week it has introduced changes as a result. Testing is no longer being provided from the Gannow Community Centre or Barden Boys and Girls Club centres but the sites will still supply home testing kits for anyone to access. Testing using lateral flow devices remains available from the Central Methodist Church (behind Burnley Town Hall) three days a week. It is open on Mondays from 9am to noon; on Wednesdays from 9am to 4pm; and on Saturdays from 9am to noon. A Burnley Council spokesman said: The review follows a reduction in the number of visits to the testing centres, reflecting the wider rollout of home testing and accessibility of DIY testing kits.

HOLTVILLE â The Womenâs Club of Holtville recently awarded four local women scholarships at an event held May 5.
The scholarship awards event, which was hosted by Scholarship Chair Mary Jane Kirchenbauer, was the clubâs first meeting since COVID-19 forced us on hiatus last year. Also, this year there is another first: Each of our four outstanding applicants were awarded first place. And, yes, they are that good.Â
Through the years, one of the primary goals of the Womanâs Club has been education. These goals are accomplished through our officers, volunteer members and caring members of the community who respond to fund raising events. This co-operation makes the yearly scholarships, as well as other projects, possible. We wholeheartedly thank the public for their support.
Mary Jane Whitaker
Among the first of these was Mary Jane Whitaker, wife of William Whitaker, Sarasota’s first pioneer settler.
As gutsy as she was small she stood in at 5 feet tall the diminutive Mary Jane was fearless. Besides contending with the hardships inherent in surviving life on the frontier, she faced danger from marauding Seminole Indians who burned her Yellow Bluffs home down in a raid.
Later, she went toe-to-toe with Union soldiers during the Civil War who threatened to burn her second home down. Legend has it that Mary Jane handed the officer in charge a match, saying, “I want to look in the eyes of a man who can stoop so low as to burn the house of a helpless woman and her children.” He and his men rode off leaving the Whitaker home standing.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - The CDC and Texas Governor Greg Abbott have introduced recommendations that summer camps and youth programs must follow as they open on May 31.
Two of those guidelines include still wearing masks and social distancing. However, now students must wear them whether summer activities are taking place inside or out.
“With the kids wearing their masks, they’re already used to it, wearing them in school. So they come to the club, they still have to wear them,” said Carlos Martinez, Director of Operations for the Wichita Falls Boys and Girls Club.
