Total in Brunei selected three children registered with the Community Development Department (JAPEM) to receive sponsorship for their early childhood education at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School.
It is part of Total’s corporate social responsibility programme themed ‘Youth Inclusion’ where the company is committed to contributing to provide access to education; support culture and sport; and assist in job creation by supporting the I-Usahawan programme.
Total Corporate Services Manager Harina binti Ramlee said, “With Youth Inclusion, our objective is to empower them to take control of their future and to play a role in the development of their communities.”

Ugandan farmers whose land will soon become a crude oil pipeline pathway lose years of livelihood
After years of uncertainty, communities are demanding proper compensation from major oil companies who will soon begin construction of a major pipeline through their land.

Three years ago, Alfred Okumu Weki’s land was identified for acquisition by multinational oil companies and the Ugandan government to pave way for new oil infrastructure in the Albertine region of Western Uganda where major oil reserves were discovered over a decade ago. To this day, however, no pipeline has been built. This has left Weki and others in the community in a state of constant limbo, unable to plant crops and earn a livelihood from their land due to fear that at any moment construction could begin.

Farmers and civil society groups in Uganda are opposing the agreement between oil giant Total, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation and the governments of Tanzania and Uganda greenlighting oil production in the Lake Albert region of western Uganda.
They contend that the project threatens the wetlands and forests that support lives and livelihoods in Albertine, central and southern Uganda, as well as the wellbeing of Lake Albert itself, a transboundary lake shared with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They want the environmental and climate impacts of the projects evaluated before the project proceeds.
