BOX ELDER, S.D. – Box Elder Police are trying to find out who sent a 9-1-1 text that falsely claimed there was an active shooter situation at Douglas High School Monday evening.
Box Elder Police said in a press release that the original text claiming there was an active shooter at Douglas High School was received by Meade County Dispatch at 5:32 p.m.
Upon entering Douglas High School, law enforcement found no signs of an active shooter event. Some students and staff were present, but complied with law enforcement and were safe. Out of an abundance of caution, all Douglas School District buildings were searched and at 7:00 p.m., the all clear was given.

Manslaughter charge upgraded to murder for Box Elder woman accused of killing two-year-old girl

RAPID CITY, S.D. A second-degree manslaughter charge has now been upgraded to second-degree murder for the Box Elder woman accused of killing a two-year-old child.
22-year-old Precious Delaney Black Elk is now facing a mandatory life-sentence for the Feb. 7 crime, where law enforcement responded to a 911 call that a child was not breathing. After arriving on-scene, officers found the child unresponsive and beyond resuscitation, and reported bruising on the infant. Additional investigators from Box Elder Police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office were brought in at that time.

BOX ELDER, S.D. On Sunday, February 7, Box Elder Police and Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 240 N. Ellsworth Rd. for a child that was not breathing.
Law enforcement arrived on-scene and found a two year old unresponsive and beyond resuscitation. The responding officers reported bruising on the infant and called in additional investigators from Box Elder Police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
Monday, after reviewing available information and the completion of an autopsy, 22-year-old Precious Delaney Black Elk of Box Elder was taken into custody and charged with one count of second-degree Manslaughter and one count Abuse or Cruelty to a Minor Under Age Seven.
