25 died in 19 traffic crashes in 2020

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted nearly every facet of public life from public health to education to the local economy.  But the one area that COVID-19 apparently hasn t infiltrated in Monroe County is the roads, according to Sgt. Brian Quinn, head of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division, despite some alleging that COVID-19 has either kept reckless drivers at home or caused internalized anger to be let out on the road.  There were 19 fatal crashes that claimed 25 lives in Monroe County last year, not far off from the 16 deadly crashes that took 17 lives in 2019, according to annual data collected by The Monroe News.

Former preacher granted hearing | News, Sports, Jobs

pray@altoonamirror.com A former itinerant preacher who is serving a 66 year, eight month, minimum prison sentence for the rape of a Bedford County child has been granted a new hearing by the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Walter Donald Bradshaw, 71, has been seeking a hearing for several years so he can challenge the effectiveness of his attorneys. Bradshaw claims the attorneys may not have told him about a possible plea agreement for a much lighter sentence. A panel of Superior Court judges ruled 2-1 late last week that Bradshaw was entitled to present his argument before a Bedford County judge. The panel ordered a new post-conviction hearing.
