Fox21Online July 16, 2021 DULUTH, Minn.- It was a day of dodgeball, tug of war, and food eating contests as kids competed in Community Olympic Day here in Duluth. Neighborhood Youth Services, Boys and Girls Club, and Valley Youth Center teamed up to bring kids ages 6 to 18 together to participate in a miniature series of Olympic games at Denfeld High School. “There’s kids from every area in Duluth that is down here right now and some of them go to school together, some of them don’t,” said program director Pez Davila. “So it’s nice to have everybody interact, just have some fun and maybe see some people they haven’t seen since COVID as well.”

Duluth s Life House scrambled quickly following the news that the Hills Youth and Family Services was not only ending its residential behavioral health services, but also its day treatment and community offerings, including Neighborhood Youth Services (NYS). This is a critical site for a neighborhood dealing with economic, racial and health disparities, Life House Executive Director Jordon Johnson said of NYS, housed in the Washington Recreation Center, 310 N. 1st Av. W.

Black-Owned Businesses Showcased in Community Event February 26, 2021 The Northland Black Business Showcase featured over 20 shops and establishments across the Twin Ports. The event was hosted by Neighborhood Youth Services and took place at the Washington Center Gym where area Black business owners were able showcase their skills to those in the community. “I think it’s good for the neighborhood that we serve too to come out and see that you can be successful as well,” said Pez Davila, Program Director For Neighborhood Youth Services, who organized the event. “Even though life may not have started out good or even just for black people itself in this country, that there are ways to excel and there are people doing it.”
