BENGALURU: Ramesh Gowda buried two of his family members his father and brother who both died of Covid in a span of a week. Their bills at a reputed private hospital in Mysuru amounted to a staggering Rs 16 lakh.
Gowda, who helped his father manage their farm in Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district, is 25. His family sold valuables and used their meagre savings to meet medical expenses, but even that was not enough. “We had to sell two acres of our land located close to the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway to settle the final bill and claim the bodies,” said Gowda as he wept.

BENGALURU: At least eight Covid-19 patients in the city have received a monoclonal antibody cocktail called Casirivimab and Imdevimab. The new drug, which comes in the form of two doses of Rs 60,000 each, offers hope to comorbid patients who have mild to moderate coronavirus infection but face higher risk of developing complications.
Of the eight, two got the drug at St John’s Medical College Hospital on Tuesday. The two men, aged 52 and 38, had undergone a kidney transplant earlier, and have been given the dose to prevent their mild symptoms from turning into a severe infection.

BENGALURU: Karnataka primary and secondary education Minister Suresh Kumar on Wednesday said an appropriate decision will be taken soon on holding board exams in the state. Regarding holding SSLC (Class 10) and second year Pre-University (Class 12) exams, an appropriate decision will be taken at the earliest, the Minister said in a statement. He said discussions are underway with teachers, education experts and parents in this regard and an appropriate decision will be taken soon keeping in mind the health of the children and their future.
