How bad are the streets in Copperas Cove? City leaders paying $148K to find out

COPPERAS COVE — In what would be a first for the city, the Copperas Cove City Council approved the commissioning of a pavement condition assessment for city streets to be completed by Houston-based firm, Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. The study, approved at a Tuesday night council meeting, will cost the city $148,551, but the resulting plan could save taxpayer money, according to Public Works Director Scott Osburn. In 2016, voters in Cove approved the allocation of one-eighth per one cent of sales tax revenue to be specifically for road construction projects. Voters re-approved the allocation in 2020. “The city has made significant progress in the areas of developing a street maintenance program,” Osburn said.

Pecan Cove Road repairs may be a reality sooner than later

TTG Utilities, LP, of Gatesville may be awarded another roadwork repair project in the city of Copperas Cove. During Tuesday’s city council meeting, a bid may be approved and a contract awarded to the company for the repair of Pecan Cove Road in western Copperas Cove. The city annexed the road in 1996, and the reconstruction portion of the project was initially placed on the 2010-2014 Capital Improvement Plan, according to the packet attached to the agenda. “Currently, the condition of the roadway is extremely bumpy due to rough edges and failing substructure resulting in numerous potholes,” the background of the agenda item says. “The road is continuing to deteriorate at a very fast pace.”
