Here is a round up of the public notices which have appeared in the South Wales Argus over the last week: Newport City Council is to temporarily close the subway at Devon Place for investigation works to the subway to be completed. This is an extension of an order which came into force on November 2, 2020 and which would have expired on May 1, 2021. It has been extended until November 1, 2021 or until the works which it is proposed to carry out have been completed, whichever is the earlier. The alternative route is Devon Place, Godfrey Road, Clytha Park Road and Queensway.
The stretch of canal on the Crumlin Arm between Pontymason Lane in Risca and the Fourteen Locks in Rogerstone has a few areas of low water levels, and some of it is completely empty. Water levels are also low on the Main Line between Brecon and Newport which goes through Cwmbran. This had led to concerns for the wildlife, with ducks, ducklings and moorhens wading through the mud. Many people have reported this to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal Trust and to the local councils. A statement on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal Trust’s website dated Saturday, May 1 said: “The severe water shortage on both the Main Line and Crumlin Arm on the Mon & Brec canal in Torfaen County Borough Council and Newport City Council areas, has been reported by many concerned residents. Our Trust has also been very concerned. As the councils are the owners of the canal within their respective areas, we have spoken to officers at each council regarding the issue and discussed what remed

A POWYS based RSPCA inspector is planning to run a complete lap of south Wales before the end of 2021 to raise funds for animals in need. David Milborrow faces a huge logistical challenge as he wants to the entire course of south Wales in stages and will need to return to his home in Crickhowell between runs. Inspector Milborrow was motivated to take on the challenge after a “really tough” winter for south Wales wildlife-and hopes his efforts will help raise funds that will help the region’s hedgehogs, wild birds and other wildlife. He was one of the first officers who raced to the aid of two badgers who were stuck between metal steps and a wall on Pentre Lane above Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, in Cwmbran.
