The Vice President revealed the new name on Friday, at an event to commemorate the anniversary of the newest addition to the US armed forces. The move is one of US President Donald Trump’s landmark pledges.
Space Force Mocked by Everyone for Calling Members ‘Guardians : ‘How Is This NOT a Joke’
New military sub branch claims it took a year to come up with that apparent reference to Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”Andrea Towers | December 18, 2020 @ 5:01 PM Last Updated: December 18, 2020 @ 5:32 PM
Capping off a thoroughly embarrassing year for the nation’s newest not-actually-independent, not-actually-separate branch of the military, the U.S. Space Force on Friday invited nearly universal ridicule when it rolled out the official title by which its personnel will be known “Guardians.”
Along with an extremely self conscious slogan justifying that ridiculous title that invited even more mockery.

Because everything in 2020 is quite literally a joke, those brave souls who will join the U.S. Space Force to protect us are now being called “Guardians.” One might even call them the … Guardians of the … Galaxy?
Before you accuse me of making things up, it is actually a real thing. We have soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and now
GUARDIANS because Donald Trump and Mike Pence just have to keep on making us look ridiculous on the world stage as the clock winds down on their time in the White House.

Men and women of the U.S. Space Force are henceforth called Guardians, Vice President Mike Pence announced Friday.
And the newest Guardian was sworn in from the International Space Station. NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins transferred from the U.S. Air Force to the Space Force while in microgravity. I think it might actually be the first in-orbit transfer in military history, Pence said Friday during a news conference.
The announcements come one year after President Donald Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act on Dec. 20, 2019, creating the Space Force as the sixth branch of military.
