Work to resume on resolving Hickman High School pool situation
Planning work that began before the pandemic to find ideas for a pool in Columbia that can hold competitive swim meets with lots of spectators is about to resume.
Jen Rukstad, assistant superintendent for secondary education, said when it s safe to travel again, swimming enthusiasts in the city plan to visit such aquatic centers. She shared the information Tuesday at a meeting of the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee of the Columbia school board.
A swimming summit was held in January 2020 at the Activity and Recreation Center to discuss the idea of retiring the more than 50-year-old pool at Hickman High School, which is only suitable for very small meets.
